Amsterdam-based education technology startup ProctorExam launched its digital surveillance service for online exams in the United Kingdom, making a debut at the edtech fair BETT Show in London.

The startup also announced it secured extra seed funding in January, making the total amount of funding raised 500K euro.

Over half of the money was raised via Leapfunder during 2015, the rest came from several informal investors.

Founded in 2014, ProctorExam makes digital surveillance for remote and on-location exams possible. “By 2020, 80 percent of all exams will be conducted online”, the startup says.

“Although many institutes strive toward flexible education, exams have remained inflexible up to now”, explains Daniel Haven, founder of ProctorExam. “We enable exam takers to schedule their own exams and take them from the comfort of their home.”

Surveillance Room

ProctorExam creates a digital surveillance room. A webcam monitors the exam in real-time, capturing audio and video, monitored by a trained exam ‘proctor.’

The University of Amsterdam was the company’s launching customer. Several customers have been added after, including the University College Rotterdam, TU Vienna, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences and the Duisenberg School of Finance.
