According to tradition, the first week of January is dominated by CES, the annual global consumer electronics and consumer technology tradeshow that takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada. This year the show is held from the 6th until the 9th of January and features 3,600 companies, including a total of 500 startups.

During CES various SuperSessions take place in which panels consisting of global leaders, business moguls and various experts delve into the critical issues forging new opportunities in technology. Technology is ever more linked to topics covering sustainability and the environment, but technology is also increasingly responsible for a prosperous economic climate. Special Envoy of StartupDelta Neelie Kroes joins the panel of CES in a SuperSession on ‘Global Innovation.’ Accompanied by Emmanuel Macron (French Minister of Economy, Industry and Digital Affairs), Jeannine Sargent (President Innovation & New Ventures of Flex) and U.S. Senator Mark Warner.

The discussion, led by Alan Murray (Editor of Fortune Magazine), weighs in on the dilemma of creating  a political climate that is supportive to innovation and startups and thereby contributing to economic growth and prosperity. Moreover, Economic growth and prosperity are most vibrant where policies and political climates foster innovation and the entrepreneurial spirit. The SuperSession focuses on questions such as: how much does policy affect innovation? And, do governments focus more on the risks of technology than the opportunities?

The Netherlands is well represented at CES. Around 600 Dutch participants from 150 different businesses, both Dutch and international partake in the conference, including Philips, TomTom, NXP and KPN. For the Dutch economy events like CES prove to be of great value.
