Dutch Minister Lodewijk Asscher (Social Affairs) designed a bill to ensure that entrepreneurs obtain the fee they currently pay for employees that can’t work due to long-term illness. If the bill passes, it will have retroactive effect from July 1, 2015. (Link in Dutch)

During Web Summit in Lisbon last week, The European Commission and the European Investment Fund presented a new pan-European ‘Fund of Funds’ vehicle with the aim to stimulate the regional VC sector and address Europe’s equity gap. The fund has the capacity to attract over 1,6 billion euro to support small businesses across Europe.

The Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) kicked off this Monday. More than 160 countries, including The Netherlands, join in by hosting several entrepreneurial activities. Over 100 events are taking place in Holland from 14-18 November, including How To Get There Summit & Get in the Ring the Netherlands. More information

Recently listed food-delivery company Takeaway.com, parent of Thuisbezorgd.nl, informed the public of their first post-IPO results in a Trade Update. The company processed 12,1 million orders in Q3 2016, representing a 45 percent increase compared to Q3 2015. “Our team is excited about the progress made in Germany, Poland and Austria”, Jitse Groen, CEO of Takeaway said.

“The acquisition of Just Eat Benelux strengthened our position in the Benelux, a region of 28 million inhabitants in which the Company is already highly profitable.” The CEO expects that the whole company will be profitable within three years, he told RTLZ recently. (Link in Dutch)

Funding

Gent-based company Teamleader, with offices in Amsterdam, Berlin and Madrid, received an investment of 10 million euro (Series B) lead by Belgian VC-firm Fortino. Teamleader, a 4-year old company with around one hundred employees, develops a unified CRM, invoicing and project planning platform for SMEs.

“Concrete plans are drawn up to enter other European markets as well”, the company says. “An office in Paris, Milan or Rome? We'll keep you in suspense just a little longer. Either way, our ambition to become the European market leader is getting closer by the day.”
