Leiden-based online education platform Gibbon, which creates ‘playlists for learning’, has been acquired by Degreed, a similar startup from San Francisco. The amount was undisclosed.
Gibbon announced the acquisition on its website (HT Tech.eu). Gibbon will continue working from Leiden, as Degreed‘s European office.
The startup was founded in 2013 and last year Gibbon focused on becoming a B2B sales company. According to the announcement, around the same time the team came in contact with Degreed.
Perfect match?
“Degreed experienced enormous growth in a very short time and have an exceptionally great sales force. With Gibbon we had a great product, but still needed to proof we could become good in sales. Was this a match made in heaven?” At the start of the year, Degreed got 21 million dollar in series B funding to add to their war chest.
Eventually, Gibbon will completely merge into Degreed. For existing Gibbon users the team offers two solutions to their collection of courses: the import of data in, for instance, a RSS-feed. Or users can migrate their data into Degreed. After 12 months Gibbon will shut down.
