Big names announced for European startup festival

Amsterdam, February 3rd, 2016

Tim Cook (CEO of Apple) and Travis Kalanick (co-founder and CEO of Uber) have accepted their invitation to come to The Netherlands with great enthusiasm. Neelie Kroes (special envoy StartupDelta) personally invited Cook and Kalanick during her visit to San Francisco together with Prime Minister Mark Rutte. Cook and Kalanick are part of the impressive line up of speakers at the opening event of Startup Fest Europe on May 24th, together with Jack Ma (CEO of online store Alibaba), Pieter van der Does (CEO of Adyen), Andrus Ansip (Vice President of the European Commission) and Mark Rutte (Prime Minister of the Netherlands). In the week after the official opening, more than 25 events will take place in 13 Dutch cities. These will provide entrepreneurs with the access, support and inspiration to accelerate their growth.

Startup Fest 2016 is a four day marathon of matchmaking between startups, investors, developers, creatives and corporates. At the helm of the Presidency of the European Union, the Netherlands aims to boost entrepreneurship in Europe. Therefore Neelie Kroes of StartupDelta as well as Constantijn van Oranje (chairman of Startup Fest) have put in great effort to draw some very interesting guests to Holland.
Constantijn van Oranje: 'The purpose of Startup Fest is that entrepreneurs make deals with investors, establish partnerships with corporates and attract the right talent. It's all about qualitative encounters’.

Startup Festival
Startup Fest Europe is a nationwide festival of more than 25 independently organised events. For example, the  Energy Fest (Shell Technology Centre Amsterdam) will showcase technological breakthroughs and innovations in cleantech renewables  and the hydrocarbon energy industry; at F&A Next (Wageningen) leading Agri-Food scientists and entrepreneurs are given a podium; at the Water Tech Fest (Leeuwarden) innovations in water processing and delta technology are showcased; in Nijmegen breakthroughs in healthcare and medical technology; and high-tech can be found at the heart of the events in Twente and Eindhoven. Europe’s largest tech incubator YES!Delft will be transformed into an extraordinary restaurant called Techilicious, where the most promising tech Startups and Captains of Industry dine to ramp up collaboration.
There will also be events in the field of FinTech, autonomous vehicles, construction, smart materials, mobile applications, smart cities and impact ventures.

Corporate CEO’s can learn about the exponential technologies and business models and how to deal with them, through intimate contacts with startups, scientist and governments. Local CoderDojo's demonstrate how young people with digital skills tackle complex problems.
In addition to sectorial themes there is a special program for national and international investors and for topics such as scaling-up, the valorisation of knowledge and collaboration with corporates.
In Utrecht at Campus Party will take place. This weeklong, 24-hours-a-day technology event is the place to be for young technical talent to innovate, learn and engage with some of the biggest names in technology. Thousands of “campuseros” will all come together working on hackathons and competitions about innovation, creativity, science and digital entertainment.
