Special Envoy StartupDelta, Prince Constantijn van Oranje of the Netherlands, has visited Tel Aviv on 27-28 June during the Israel Cyber Week. He met with key players of the Israeli Startup ecosystem to learn and exchange best practices and knowhow.  In his capacity as Special Advisor on Internet Governance and the Digital Market to the relevant EU Commissioner, Prince Constantijn participated in the Cyber Security Summit organized by the Munich Security Conference (MSC).

MSC has grown into a major global discussion forum on security policy over the last five decades. The goal of the Cyber Security Summit is to encourage debate between cyber specialists and the larger strategic community.  In recent months, an image of increasing cyber threats and incidents has emerged. Cyber security issues are becoming increasingly relevant for private companies and governments alike. Prince Constantijn encourages startups to tackle cyber threats through innovative technologies and knowledge. Startups are thus an important building block of the grand Dutch strategy to ensure a free, secure and open cyberspace.

Israel can be applauded for its effective approach on cyber security and building a strong startup ecosystem. Prince Constantijn: “Israel is very inspiring as a startup nation. Tel Aviv is one of most dynamic cyber hubs in the world. The ecosystem connects technology, knowledge and venture capital in a very effective way. The government plays a leading role in this and has invested in innovation and technology since decades. The Israeli are also very successful in bringing innovations to the market. We are eager to learn from Israel.” Prince Constantijn will meet Israeli investors who look at the Netherlands to expand their ecosystem. One of those investors is Ronen Nir, General Partner of Carmel Ventures, a venture capital firm empowering early stage startups. Mr. Ronen Nir, who just visited the Netherlands says: ‘We see the Netherlands as an excellent Launchpad for Europe and beyond. It is an energetic country and its population is one of the most technological savvy and connected in the world.”

Prince Constantijn met with key players of the Israeli startup ecosystem. He was excited to learn about the Israeli innovative startups and VC ecosystem including the Israeli Innovation Authority and its policy. “I would like to understand how Israel strategically supports the internationalization of its startups and learn from that” says Prince Constantijn. Also, learned more about the successful approach of knowledge transfer in Israel. Prince Constantijn has informed his Israeli counterparts about the Dutch startup ecosystem, scaling up opportunities, possibilities to collaborate and promote the Netherlands as a strategic landing place for Israeli startups. He aims to build an ‘Orange Bridge’ between the two startup ecosystems.

StartupDelta, in cooperation with the Dutch industry and government, has created a so called startup package with interesting incentives for international startups: a startup visa, an ‘Orange Carpet’ programme to make it easier to set up shop in the Netherlands as well as a wide range of incubator and accelerator programmes. In September, StartupDelta organizes Startup Fest Europe 2017. In October, Amsterdam will host CES Unveiled Amsterdam, a pre-event for the great electronics show in Las Vegas in January 2018. Israeli startups and investors are more than welcome at both events.
